PlayerLync supports tracking and reporting for Tin Can (xAPI) courses within Team Manager. To publish an xAPI course and enable tracking, start by accessing Team Manager with adequate user permissions. Select the “Courses” tab:
Here you will see any current published courses, and to add a new one, select “Create New Course.”
*If the Courses tab is not visible, this will need to be enabled through the Settings tab:
Team Manager will then prompt the user with the below instructions:
- You can publish courses using the admin portal and uploading courses wherever you want using the content publishing tab. This gives you the most flexibility for publishing to members, groups, and organizations. Regardless of where they are published it can always been and managed here.
- You can click the "Add" button and upload your course directly from here. You can only select one publishing option per upload. Additionally, if you only want to publish a course that can be accessed by the Training Queue, you must use the "Add" button.
- Once you have uploaded course(s). You will select the course from the dropdown list below. If you do not see your course listed, it will be one of two reasons. First you have not uploaded the course. Second, the course has already been assigned. You can only assign one course.
To proceed and add a new course file, select “Add Course.”
Next, you will be prompted with three options for publishing Tin Can xAPI packages.
- You can publish to users training queue only.
- You can publish it to the web and groups, where only members of that group will see it and download it on devices.
- You can publish it to the web and all devices that will automatically download it and everyone can view it.
Regardless of your selected option, you will also need to select the Column in which you want to publish the course, with the optional selection of a section header for the application as well:
- Pick one of three columns on the devices home screen
- Pick the section header you want to use or create. The input uses type ahead and will locate any existing section headers that have been used.
At this step, Team Manager will provide a reminder of the “column” and “section header” locations:
At this point, you will use the “File Uploader” to drag and drop your Tin Can zip file for publishing, or use the “browse” feature to locate the Tin Can xAPI file on your computer.
Next Select “Upload” to process the zip file upload to Team Manager:
Once uploaded, Team Manager will prompt you with a success message, and you will be able to select “Upload Additional Courses or Locations” to publish another course, or “Go Back to Course Settings” to continue selecting settings on the published course.
After selecting “Go Back to Course Settings” you will be redirected to the “Create New Course” page, where you will find your published course in the dropdown. Select the desired course and then click “Add Course”:
Next, you will be able to configure pertinent course options with the Course ID, Course Title, Description, Category, and Tags. The Course ID is a mandatory field, and must match the Course ID in the uploaded course package.
- Course Categories can be created in the “Settings” tab, and one important note is that by default, the course will not be assigned to a category. These can be difficult to locate in the “Courses” tab prior to being assigned to a category.
After you select “Save Course Information,” you will then configure the “Assignments” settings. The Training Queue toggle will effectively add the course to user’s training queue, while you can also indicate if this course is a user course or manager course. Finally, the Group Name for assignment may also be set – after you select “Save Assigned Groups,” you can then assign to a subsequent group.
The “Tracking Tab” allows for greater configuration for tracking and reporting of this assigned course. Tracking Groups further segment data for reporting on the “Tracking Page” and the “Tracking Column” name will appear as the column header title on the “Tracking Page.” You can also select whether this specific course is tracked as a competed or graded course for tracking and grading purposes.
Lastly, you can set a dynamic due date (number of days after start date) for the course as well as the display order when designing the learning queue for users. The “Queue Content Dependency” can be enabled if another piece of content must be completed before this specific course.
The user will now see the assigned course in their training queue upon login as a member of the group:
Upon completion, the tracked results will also appear on the Tracking page:
